HughesNet satellite Internet systems, HughesNet installation, parts and service for the lower Baja California Sur Mexico region from La Paz to Todos Santos to Las Barilles, La Ribera the East Cape to San Jose del Cabo, and Cabo San Lucas
May 04, 2011 - Recently, we had the honor to assist the Association Amis Des Enfants de L'ile de La Gonave (A.A.E.) , http://www.aaehaiti.org and Sailors Without Borders http://www.transmarinepro.com/blog/?category_name=sailors-without-borders in their volunteer relief efforts to build a school, provide shoes and clothing, and bring hope and help to the children of La Gonave, the largest offshore island in Haiti.
Association Amis des Enfants de La Gonave is a non-denominational, non-political association. It is based in Anse a Galets, where they rent a school building from Wesley church. A.A.E. carried out post earthquake repairs to the school buildings, built a ferro-cement water tank and a wall with soil-filled plastic bottles, while offering the community free of charge training sessions in these constructions as well as agricultural cultivations, vetiver, water awareness and earthquake-resistant bamboo construction and silviculture.
Electricity to this area was cut in 1987, roads and sewerage were never built, and water resources are non-existent. In this heat, food perishes in a few hours, IF and WHEN there is food. Importing from mainland Haiti is financially prohibitive.

A.A.E. also installed a solar electrical system at Anse--Galets, in addition to attempting to repair the two wind generators installed there a few years ago. The also installed a HughesNet satellite Internet system. The HughesNet system was intended to be the first A.A.E. project to help generate income by setting up a public WiFi hot spot. However, several problems delayed completion of the install.
The HughesNet system, which had initially been activated in the United States, was having problems because it could no longer receive signal in Haiti from the US satellite. There was also a recurring problem with the electrical system damaging key system components, as well as the instability of the pole holding the HughesNet dish.
